End-to-end AI engineering for organisations building from the ground up

Senior AI Engineers who can work across the full stack — from data ingestion to model deployment — are in sustained demand across KSA and UAE.

The GCC is mid-infrastructure build across almost every major sector. Senior AI Engineers who can work across the full stack — from data ingestion through model deployment, with LLM integration, cloud and on-prem — are in sustained demand. Roles typically sit inside product and platform teams rather than pure research functions, and tend to move faster to real-world deployment than equivalent roles in more mature AI ecosystems.

Clients include UAE and Saudi banks in the middle of AI-led digital transformation, PIF portfolio tech companies, government digital agencies, and well-funded fintechs operating out of DIFC and ADGM.

How this differs from ML Engineering

ML Engineer is closer to research and infrastructure — model training, MLOps, evaluation. AI Engineer is closer to product — LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, vector databases, agentic workflows, application code. The line blurs at senior levels, but the day-to-day differs:

  • An ML Engineer at a GCC bank might own model serving infrastructure for a fraud detection system.
  • An AI Engineer at the same bank would own the customer-facing chatbot, the agentic workflows that resolve customer queries end-to-end, and the integration with downstream systems.

Both are senior roles. Both are well-paid. Candidates strong in one are not automatically strong in the other. We screen briefs into the right bucket before approaching anyone.

Three operating contexts

  1. Banks mid-transformation (Mashreq, Emirates NBD, FAB, SNB, Al Rajhi) — large product teams, real budgets, regulated environment. The work is high-impact but the pace is constrained by compliance review cycles. Best fit for engineers who want stability with real scale.
  2. PIF portfolio and government digital agencies — newer engineering organisations, smaller teams, faster delivery cycles. More autonomy, less scaffolding. Best fit for engineers who want to shape the technical direction of a function.
  3. DIFC and ADGM fintechs (Tabby, Tamara, Lean Technologies) — venture-backed, product-led, the closest the GCC has to a Silicon Valley operating environment. Stronger engineering culture, leaner teams, real equity in some cases. Best fit for engineers coming directly from a US or European product company.

The right context depends on what you optimise for. Banks pay the highest base. Fintechs pay less but offer equity. PIF portfolio companies sit in between with the most interesting brief.

"Roles tend to move faster to real-world deployment than equivalent roles in more mature AI ecosystems."

What the day-to-day looks like

Lean teams, broad surface area. A Senior AI Engineer typically owns one or two production AI systems end-to-end — from data ingestion and prompt design through to deployment, monitoring, and iteration. Expect to be in product reviews, not just engineering standups. Expect to write evaluation harnesses, not just rely on someone else's. Expect to be hands-on with the prompt and the SDK, not just the surrounding infrastructure.

What candidates underestimate

The expectation of pace. Most clients are 12–18 months into a delivery roadmap that has executive visibility. A Senior AI Engineer who joins is typically expected to ship measurable improvements within the first quarter. That is achievable, but candidates moving from larger, slower organisations sometimes underestimate the cultural shift — particularly the reduction in process and the increase in direct exposure to business stakeholders.

You're a fit if

You have 6+ years in applied AI engineering — Python, LLM APIs, vector databases, cloud deployment, MLflow or equivalent. You want to work on problems that matter at national scale. Relocation to Dubai or Riyadh is a genuine consideration for you, not a dealbreaker.
